Things I Have Learned

Hi friends! These last few weeks have been such a fun whirlwind. I can't even describe to you the amount of joy I have felt. As I am reflecting today on our first 22 days of marriage, I realize I have learned a lot along the way! Here are some things I have learned that I am eager to share with you:

1. Be silly! Find time to do silly things, play around, and even buy some child-ish toys (like nerf guns). Being silly with your partner is so good for the soul. It lightens the everyday load that we may feel.

2. Let your partner do what they say they are going to do. For example, if he says he is going to do dishes, let him do it, even if it takes him a few days to complete it. I have had problems in the past with doing something he says he will do, just so I can have immediate satisfaction. Let your partner do their chores and give them time to complete the task.

3. DATE!!! It is so important to date your spouse. We have found so much satisfaction with getting out of the house, going to dinner, and doing fun date night activities. Just because the world started back up again when we got back does not mean we shouldn't find time to date each other! Find (QUALITY) time to spend with your partner.

4. Serve your spouse. It has been such an honor to serve my husband. Being a servant of God is such a high honor that I do not take lightly. If my husband needs something, I will do it. If he feels down and overwhelmed, I will pick up his duties and serve him. Asking him if he needs anything is a way of serving. Going to the store for him when he does not have time--SERVING!!!

5. Words of affirmation go a long way. It is so important that our spouses feel appreciated. Find out which love language(s) your spouse needs and make it a point to carry out those love languages. Always being kind and appreciating your partner verbally can turn their whole day around.

I am so excited to be on this new journey with my husband. I know marriage can be difficult, and I know we will encounter trials/hills/and valleys. However, we are in this together, and there is nothing we cannot do since we have the power of Christ holding us together.

Much love,

Lauren
